19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback Medvedev won his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a torrid period, managing just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in especial - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-time trainer his previous coach.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the past month - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden championship since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court after March of 2023.

The win also means Medvedev has won 21 championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six finals, comprising in that event earlier this year.

The player's defensive approach and frequent reactions on court had led some to wonder if his ability to play at the top level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and compete assertively, supported by an improved serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging opponent, taking 4 of the concluding five games to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged break points in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his initial professional victory, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

He rescued 4 initial break points in a tight third set before the champion secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner clinched the title with a rally at the net area, with his opponent unable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
